Billboard Women in Music 2025
Sonny Fodera has consistently released some of the scene’s freshest house music, working audiences into a sweat on dancefloors from his native Australia, across the States and beyond. Today (July 12), Fodera expands his track record with his fourth full-length LP, Rise.
Three years in the making, named for the direction of his current career trajectory and out via his own Solotoko label and Insomniac Records, the album’s dozen tracks are an extension of the sleek, sexy house that’s made Fodera one of the genre’s buzziest names. Rise‘s hefty crew of guest vocalists include Josh Barry, Sinead Harnett and Lilly Ahlberg, who lends her slinky voice to the album’s seductive single “The Moment.” The mood on Rise oscillates from such pure dancefloor heat to the more soaring, soulful output on tracks like “Push Them Away” with London-based vocalist Janai.
“I’ve worked in studios all over the world whilst touring and met some incredible people,” Fodera tells Billboard Dance. “I’d say a lot of my album is inspired by my experiences of travelling, things I have picked up as inspiration along the way and then taken back to the studio.”
Like his 2016 album, Frequently Flying, Rise was inspired by Fodera’s world travels, with huge sets this past spring at Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival under his belt, and a summer tour schedule including an Ibiza run and a set at Creamfields on the horizon. The self-described family man, who’s at home with his wife and baby when he’s not on the road, got a big profile bump last year when his official remix of Calvin Harris’ “Promises” went top ten on Beatport.
“There is no fixed place for my studio,” he continues. “It could be on an aeroplane in the sky or at home with my full set up. I also like to create music in a really natural and energetic way, where I’ll build around my mood, thoughts or even a sound that has interested me. I always aim to create something special in the many layers that make up my music. It’s been amazing to be able to road test the tracks in Ibiza and other places… I feel this is my best work to date, and can’t wait to hear more of what people think of it.”
Fodera embarks on a U.K. tour behind Rise this fall. See the tour schedule and hear the album below.
